Solidarity Circles
Women provide support for each other through weekly Solidarity Circle meetings. Borrowers build solidarity (strength and unity) through participation in these lending circles. The meetings are an opportunity for the women to meet outside the home and discuss their businesses, concerns, create group projects, and discuss any other topic of concern. For example, if a client falls ill, her circle helps with her business until she is well. If a client gets discouraged, the support group pulls her through. These meetings provide a place for a woman to ask for help. It has been shown that microcredit programs that include Solidarity Circles are more likely to succeed.
