Mbitsemenshi (M. Bitse), Angelique

  • Born: 1992
  • Country: Refugee from DR Congo
  • Lives at Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Uganda

Angelique is 18 years old. She lives with three brothers, two sisters, and mother. Her 62 year-old mother is weak and cannot provide much for the family.

Angelique explains "my father died of malaria and due to lack of good treatment, he died miserably. My elder brother, Rwemera Peter, is 18 years old; we were in school but sometimes have to stop to work for food and books."

Angelique would use her loan to farm beans and maize with her brother. She explains "we would love to buy some animals like a goat and a pig that will generate income for our family. We are sure that we can make a profit and pay back the loan in future. Not only this but we will be able to go back to school because our mother can help look after the animals and help sell crops. Thanks from Mbitsemenshi Angelique."

UPDATE: In 2009 Angie was very sick and close to death. Her mother took her to the DRC for treatment; they are planning to return to Kyangwali. (Angie's three cousins died in a house fire in 2008, her father died in 2009.)
