About Us
PeopleWeaver was founded to provide aid to refugees living at the Kyangwali Refugee Settlement. PeopleWeaver is a not-for-profit* organization which transfers 100% of all donations to those being aided. Aid has included funding for food, schooling, supplies, malaria nets and medicine, communication tools, and now microcredit loans. In addition, we are using the internet to bring people together – those in Uganda and elsewhere.
Many of the refugees in Kyangwali lack food; clean water; medical care; freedom of movement; housing; an education - just about everything we in the industrialized nations take for granted. The number of people dying from preventable or curable diseases, orphaned, and facing a drastically reduced life expectancy is staggering. In these numbers the individual is lost, we attempt to look beyond the numbers and focus on the individual.
* Non-Profit Status
PeopleWeaver has not applied for non-profit status. For now, we would rather use the money required to become a non-profit organization to assist others. If the response and donations become substantial, we will apply for non-profit status. We are hoping that people will not allow our non-profit status to keep them from donating.
Note: If you are a lawyer interested in donating your time to help us explore the legalities and costs of becoming a non-profit organization please contact us.
